"Megan Miao’s new series compactible (2018) comprises objects and charcoal drawings of erotic biomorphic forms meant to articulate and incite feelings of desire. The objects and drawings were inspired by conversations gathered from a DIY Sex Toy Workshop Megan conducted in 2016, where participants designed their own individually specific and ideal sex toy. But the discussion surrounding the workshop goes beyond looking at sex toys as physiological instruments for the production of sexual pleasure—it also delved into the psychological need for intimacy, the subjective definitions of sensual pleasures, and personal expressions of desire. These notions Megan distilled into her uncoloured, vitrified and textured clay objects that curves subtly and fits preciously within the hand, embodying closeness and connection."
