HELLO

I’m Megan Miao, a learning experience designer, ceramicist, writer and educator based in Singapore.

THE DREAMS OF WEEDS

As the circuit breaker began, PM Lee delivered a speech. In it, he specifically singled out grass-cutting in HDB estates as a service that will be deliberately degraded to reduce transmission of the virus amongst workers.

A once manicured garden city has been permitted by this specific action to grow, unbounded, into a true garden. The weeds have grown tall to the hips of children, stretching luxuriously after a long and frequently interrupted sleep.

In this same period of time we have slumbered, dreams full of uncertainty and challenges, of the “new normal. And now, as we emerge into this new world, we find ourselves surrounded by the certainty that life will continue. If only the weeds could talk, they could share with us their dreams, whisper perseverance, empathy and hope into our ears.

Through Streets of Hope, NAC bands together with 153 homegrown artists to take #SGCultureAnywhere, as their unique works line Singapore's streets along St Andrew's Road, Fullerton Road, Esplanade Drive, Stamford Road, and many more.
